The United States men's basketball team captured its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, defeating host nation France 103-96 in a thrilling final in Paris on Saturday.
Jayson Tatum led the way for USA, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kevin Durant added 22 points and 9 rebounds, while Damian Lillard chipped in with 19 points.
For France, Victor Wembanyama had a monster game with 32 points and 16 rebounds. Rudy Gobert added 18 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome the firepower of the American team.
The United States dominated from start to finish, leading by as many as 20 points in the second half. They shot 50% from the field, including 18-of-36 from three-point range. France shot just 40% from the field and 30% from three-point range.
The Americans also had a significant advantage in fastbreak points, outscoring France 31-9. They also won the rebounding battle 53-35.
With this victory, the United States men's basketball team extends its Olympic gold medal streak to five.
