President Concedes Defeat After Age Concerns

Trump Leads in Head-to-Head Matchup

In a stunning turn of events, President Joe Biden has announced that he will not run for re-election in 2024. The decision comes after months of speculation about Biden's age and fitness for office.

Biden, 81, would be the oldest president in American history if he were to win a second term. Concerns about his age and his ability to serve four more years have dogged him throughout his presidency.

A poll released last week showed Trump leading Biden by seven points in a head-to-head matchup. The results did little to dispel concerns about Biden's electability in a general election.

"The decision not to run for re-election was difficult, but it is the right one for our country," Biden said in a statement. "I want to thank the American people for allowing me to serve as their president. It has been the honor of a lifetime."

Biden's withdrawal from the race will likely set off a scramble among Democrats to replace him. Several candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, are considered potential frontrunners.
