Mbappe brace guides France past Netherlands
All eyes were on Kylian Mbappe in his first match as France captain and the superstar delivered with a brace as the world champions won 3-2 at the Netherlands in their UEFA European Qualifiers Group B opener on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old forward opened the scoring with a typically clinical finish in the first half before adding a second after the break following a brilliant solo run.
Georginio Wijnaldum pulled one back for the Netherlands before Cody Gakpo equalised with a stunning long-range strike.
However, Mbappe had the final say as his last-minute penalty sealed the victory for France, who have now won their last 17 games at major international tournaments (World Cup/EURO).
